Overton St Helen's Primary School family news: Issue 12

Weekly Round Up

It's been an up and down sort of week this week for us all at Overton. A definite highlight of the week was today's Lancashire Library Bus visit where we helped ourselves to their amazing selection of books that will populate shelves and library corners in classrooms for the next year. It really is a wonderful thing to see how much our pupils get excited at the sight of a good book!

A very sad moment however, was hearing the news about our lovely therapy dog, Gus. He was such a wonderful visitor every fortnight to our school and we will all miss him very much. Today we placed a special plaque in our grounds to show how much we loved his presence in school.

Next week will see the start of the Advent season, where we begin to prepare ourselves for Christmas and the coming of Christ. In our worships over the next three weeks, we will be building up a Jesse Tree. This is becoming something of a tradition for Overton now, where we look at some amazing people from the Bible, hear their story and think about how they paved the way for Jesus.

1 Week to the Christmas Fair!!!!!

This time next week folks, there'll be a buzz of excitement humming it's way amongst our classrooms as we get ready for the Christmas Fair at the end of the day!

This is now the time to start sending in donations for our stalls. We already have loads of teddys (however more will always be welcome) but we are now in need of wine, tombola prizes and any other larger gifts that could be included in our 'Santa's Sleigh' stall. Please send them in at the beginning of next week so that the OSFA team have plenty of time to sort and get them ready for the stalls. Thank you!

The fair plans to be a great one. We have the amazing raffle and our usual stalls, such as the tombolas, Wine to Water and Santa's Sleigh. There are some fantastic refreshments on offer from Bubble Tea for the children to Baileys Hot Chocolate and Mulled Wine for the parents! Festive loaded fries with pigs in blankets will be served from the kitchen hatch and our cake stall (for which we will need many donation of cakes from your lovely selves) will be a great option for something sweeter. Amongst all that, there will be many games for everyone to enjoy and the whole thing will be set off with a festive performance from the school choir.

What's not to get excited about!

Next Friday will be a non-uniform day, to mark the occasion of the Christmas Fair.

Advent Services

St Helen's Church extend a welcome to any families wanting to join them for an Advent Christingle service on Sunday 7th December at 10.45am. Please make a note of the other dates for special services over the Christmas period.

In addition, this Sunday at 6.15pm there will be a special Advent Service at Lancaster Priory for anyone who wishes to attend. Two of our very own pupils will be singing in the choir there and I have no doubt it will be one not to miss!

Owl Adventures

We were disappointed not to have had our visit from Owl Adventures this week. Thank you to all who sent a £1 in towards the cost of this experience. We are in current communication with them and hope to reschedule it before Christmas.

Y3 and Y4 Bikeability

A reminder for all parents of pupils in Year 3 and Year 4, to complete the online permission form for the upcoming Bikeability sessions next week. Please be aware that without it, the Go Velo instructors will not permit pupils to take part. Many thanks.

Ukulele Performance

Willow Class having been working really hard with their music teacher Beth, each Tuesday throughout this term, learning how to play the Ukulele. We would like to give them the opportunity to demonstrate their new skills by holding a short performance before the end of the day next Tuesday. If any parents from Willow Class would like to join us for this, you are most welcome. Please come to the front of the school for around 2.10pm to take your seats in the hall.

Well done indeed to Hollie in Maple Class, Maverick in Holly Class, Polly in Elm, Edie in Willow Class, Arthur in Beech and Lucy in Oak, who are our Stars of the Week for showing determination and an excellent attitude to their work. Well done all and keep it up!
